La Rioja

The La Rioja region, the first area to be planted by Spanish missionaries in the country, is to the north of San Juan and Mendoza. Lack of available water has had a major impact on restricting wine production. La Rioja is known for producing aromatic whites from Moscatel and Torrontes varietals.
