Maconnais

The wines from around the town of Macon are often excellent value. Here chardonnay may be softened by malolactic fermentation, balancing their high acidity and citrus-fruit character. Pouilly-Fuisse is a particularly full-bodied example, with very ripe grapes giving flavours of peach and melon, often balanced by the nuttiness of new oak.
