Loire

The vineyards of the Loire cover a large area as they follow the course of the river west towards the Atlantic. There are considerable differences in soils and climate, which means that different sub-regions lend themselves to different grape varieties. Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadet (or Melon Blanc) and Chenin Blanc appear variously, as do Gamay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.
