Sancerre

Sancerre is located in the Central Vineyards, in the east of the Loire Valley. The soil is chalky and stony, not too disimilar from Chablis - hence the whites are also often described as 'minerally'. However unlike Chablis, here they are made using Sauvignon Blanc which thrives in particular on the flintier soils which run along the river itself. Made in stainless steel, Sauvignon Blanc retains its vibrant grassy and gooseberry characteristics and is generally meant for drinking young. Sancerre also produces some red wine made with Pinot Noir.
