Italy
Confusing and exhilarating in equal measure, Italy has astonishing depth and diversity when it comes to wine these days. It is a massive producer; a carpet of vines stretches from the mountainous Trentino-Alto Adige to the sun-drenched south and on further to the Sicilian slopes of Mount Etna. Look out for grape varieties native to specific regions, and for wines from lesser-known areas spear-heading the spirit of experimentation which is currently taking hold.
