Piemonte
Piemonte,'at the foot of the mountains', is a fabulous region for very high quality red wines, white wines and sparkling wines. Dominated by the Alps, the climate oscilates between severe weather in the winter and a long ripening season in summer. Barolo and Barbaresco are both made around the town of Alba from the intense Nebbiolo grape. Barbera also produces really excellent red wines in both Alba and Asti provinces. Moscato d'Asti is perfumed and grapey, sweet and slightly sparkling whilst a still, dry wine is made in Gavi from the Cortese grape.
