Recent evidence shows that wine was made here as far back as 1200BC. The main grape has always been the red Cannonau, bought from Spain where it is known as Garnacha. The Vermentino grape also produces some delicious white wines here. Production has dropped significantly since the 1970s but quality has improved, especially of the peppery Cannonau.
