Tuscany
Quality and consistency has been on the rise in this stunningly beautiful corner of Italy for several decades. Tuscany now boasts six of Italy's DOCGs, the highest recognition of quality. Maritime influences from the west and the hilly nature of the landscape (excellent exposure along with higher altitudes) means that the grapes slowly develop aromas and flavours whilst retaining their natural acidity. This is the home of Sangiovese and more recently the super-Tuscan; blends of Sangiovese and international varieties. These famous wines including Sassicaia, began life outside the regulatory system but are gradually being assimilated.
