Bierzo

Bierzo is in the north west of Castilla Y Leon, near to Galicia. It is cooler here than in other parts of this large autonomous region and the soil contains large amounts of slate and granite. These factors encourage the local red grape Mencia to produce wines with a pronounced minerality, which are lively and fruity and also often quite intense.
