Penedes

South-west of Barcelona and into the hills lies the region of Penedes. Full-bodied reds are made along the coast from Garnacha, Monastrell and international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Further into the hills, it is cooler varieties such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer which are grown at these greater altitudes. Penedes is also where the white wine used in the production of Cava comes from.
