Rioja

The Rioja region covers the valley of the upper Ebro river, in northern Spain. 2/3 of production is red wines (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo) whilst whites are made from Viura, Malvasia and Garnacha Blanca. Reds range in style depending on which part of Rioja they are from, the blend and the length of time spent in oak however a modern Rioja style focuses on the fruit rather than the oak, with aromas of strawberries and plums with some toasty, vanilla flavours adding complexity.
