Discovering a Fresh Cornish Spirit

Posted on 29th August 2013 by ewwwebdev There have been 0 comments

Tarquin Leadbetter, chief-distiller at the family-run Southwestern Distillery, has been busy perfecting his unique recipes for two fresh and invigorating spirits, before unleashing them upon an appreciative public this summer.

With his Gin inspired by the wild Atlantic coast of North Cornwall, and the first ever Pastis made in Britain, Tarquin has created unique spirits with a sense of place. He even encorporates some ingredients from his garden and nearby clifftops.

Tarquin's Handcrafted Gin

Tarquin's Handcrafted Gin has a unique signature of botanicals carefully sourced from around the world and gathered to produce gin in Cornwall for the first time. Juniper berries from Kosovo, orris root and bitter almonds from Morocco and green cardamom from Guatemala are just a few ingredients which make up the blend. Devon violets from the family garden as well as fresh orange, lemon and grapefruit zest are also added. The gin is distilled in a flame-fired copper pot still called 'Tamara', goddess of the Tamar. The aroma is subtle, with a complex fragrance of spice, citrus and fresh garden flowers and herbs.

Tarquin's Handcrafted Pastis

Tarquin's Pastis is the first of it's kind to be made in Britain. Using green aniseed from Turkey, star anise from China and coriander seeds from Bulgaria amoungst other exotic ingredients,Tarquin has perfected the balance to create a spirit which tastes fantastic either with fresh orange juice or simply with iced mineral water. You might also be able to detect the distinctive aroma of gorse flowers from Cornish clifftops, their coconut aromas complimenting the lemon and grapefruit which is also added.

We are now stocking both the gin and pastis in-store, or you can order online at www.ewwines.co.uk
