Rhone

The course of the Rhone river, between the city of Vienne in the north and south to Avignon, encompasses an enormous wine growing region of great diversity. It can roughly be divided in two. The Northern Rhone vineyards represent only a small amount of the wine produced but many of the AC communes are located here, expressing the quality of the wine produced. Further south the valley opens out and it is warmer. The range of soils and grapes varies multiplies, as do winemaking methods.
