Hawkes Bay

Hawkes Bay is located on the east coast of New Zealand's north island. It's wine-making history dates back to 1851, making it the country's oldest. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are regional specialities. Hawkes Bay is hot and sunny with a maritime climate and poor quality, well drained soils. These factors, coupled with a long growing season, makes for deep red wines with complex structure, which compete successfully with premium wines from around the world. Chardonnay is also grown very successfully.
